Hinojosa, G. M. (1983). A borderlands town in transition : Laredo, 1755-1870. College Station : Texas A&M University Press, c1983. Notes: Page 43, a downward trend noticeable in 1833 and was clearly evident by 1835. Milton B. Newton, Jr., Certain Aspects of the Political History of Starr County, Texas (M.A. thesis, Texas College of Arts and Industries, 1964). Notes: Page 12, Since the advent of European settlement in 1749, Starr County has been given over to agriculture. Most of its territory is now, as then, used as range, though in Spanish, Mexican, and Texan times more sheep, goats, horses, and mules were raised than today when the emphasis is on cattle.
