Claudia Maldonado was a resident of San Diego, Texas in the early 1900s. The town is in South Texas in the counties of Duval and Jim Wells. Early Spanish grants date from 1806, the springs that flow to the San Diego Creek made the location a stopping point for many settlers in the 19th century. The postcards were donated to South Texas Archives by Maria E. Garza in 2002. Information on the Maldonado family was not included.
The majority of postcards were sent in celebration of a holiday, birthday, or baptism. They reflect the era with women in Victorian dress and hair styles. Colorful flowers, scenic views of places in South Texas or Mexico, and lovely women adorn the front of the postcards; the messages are written in Spanish, save a few in English. Included in the collection are 118 postcards, 2 promotional publications, and 5 miscellaneous cards.
The collection is arranged as they were received and housed in one volume of a photo case.
