April 29th and 30th Operation Frequent Wind took place in the last days of the Vietnam War. This operation took place prior to the North Vietnamese Army taking over the South Vietnam capital of Saigon. The city is currently call Ho Chi Minh City and is the largest city in Vietnam. The evacuation was supposed to be for Americans and their South Vietnamese allies but the advancement of the North Vietnamese Army was underestimated and only a fraction was evacuated to safety. Kenneth R. Armstrong, who was part of Operation Frequent Wind, lives in South Texas. He retired from the U.S. Navy and Texas A&M University Kingsville.
The material concerns the last days of the Vietnam War. The pictures are of the U.S.S. Midway and its time during Operation Frequent Wind. It was a chaotic time where the military was trying to evacuate as many people as they could. The collection contains a U. S. Navy publication, six photographs in a booklet, and forty color photographs, pdf of Special Spectrum Vol. 1 No. 3.
