Sarah Jones Walling was married to Dr. Bert Heyward Walling and worked as a civil servant in the town of Kingsville. They had one son from a previous marriage of his. When Sarah retired she became the Parish Secretary for the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church, Chairman for the Kleberg County Historical Commission, a member of the Agarita Garden Club, a member of the Republican National Committee, and kept all the records for St. Anne's Guild of her church. She researched the Flato Opera House's history and made several presentations to different organizations. Sarah's collection reflects her interest in the history of Kingsville, Texas and her dedication to civic organizations. Dr. Walling died in 1985 and Sarah Jones Walling died March 14, 2003 at the age of 76. Survivors include a stepson, Bert Walling of Weslaco, a brother, George Jones Sr. of Kingsville; and a grandchild.
Four oral histories about the Flato Opera House from local citizens, newspaper clippings and documents give the history of this landmark in Kingsville. Included are business records and photographs of members of the Kleberg County Historical Commission in 1992, records and programs from the Agarita Garden Club and records from St. Anne's Guild from 1995 to 1998.
