The following history was taken from an unidentified newspaper clipping found in the 50th Anniversary scrapbook: “For several years prior to 1931, a group of local musicians and lovers of music worked together as a Department Club. Believing that they could better serve their community in a musical way through the function of a full-time club, plans were formulated in early 1931, which culminated in the organization of the Kingsville Music Club. On May 6, 1931, Mrs. J.V. Chandler invited a group of 15 women to meet in the home of Mrs. G.F. Williams for the purpose of organizing the club. Mrs. Chandler was elected temporary chairman and Mrs. William Landrum was appointed secretary. The following committees were appointed: Nominating, Mesdames Harry Collins, Charles Stahl, W.A. Frances and L.A. Fritts; constitution and by-laws, Mesdames A.D. Harvey, L.E. Fitch and Harry Collins. On May 24, 1931, at the First Baptist Church, the Kingsville Music Club was officially organized with a charter membership of 65 having as its objective: "The study of music, the development of individual talent and the promotion of greater interest in music in the community."
