The Community Concerts Associations began as a way to expand musical culture from the big cities into smaller communities that lacked the resources to attract quality entertainment. Community Concerts first began in 1922 as the Organized Audience Movement, headed by Dema Harshbarger and Ward French. They soon attracted the attention of Columbia Concerts Corporation (later to become Columbia Artists Management, Inc.), which adopted Community Concerts in 1928. South Texas Archives holds Kingsville Community Concerts Association Records from 1948 to 2004. The association functioned as a nonprofit organization providing quality entertainment to the community at nominal costs. Season memberships, donations and fund raisers paid for the concerts provided by the parent company, Community Concerts Inc. and Columbia Artists Management. Contracts with the parent company were signed every five years."
Files of the Kingsville Community Concert Association includes membership rosters, meeting minutes, expenses, concerts provided, volunteer data, and publications from the Community Concert Association Inc. Dates of the records are 1948 through 1996.
