A vision of Presbyterians in the early 20th Century, The Pan American Presbyterian School was started to offer an education to young boys from Mexico. Henrietta King donated 700 acres of King Ranch for the school and Rev. James W. Skinner agreed to start the school. With the land vacant, Skinner and the boys started building the school from the ground up and the Texas-Mexican Industrial Institute- Tex-Mex for short- slowly started to take shape. A second school for girls – Pres-Mex - began in the mid 1920’s in Taft, Texas. In 1956 the two schools merged into the Presbyterian Pan American School headed by the new president Sherwood Reisner. The home campus of the combined schools resides on the Kingsville, Texas campus where considerable renovations were made at the time of the merger.
The collection contains yearbooks, digitized and available under the collection title Presbyterian Pan American School Records on the South Texas website, photos, correspondence, and board meeting minutes which portray the history of the school.
