Postcard of Giant’s Causeway, Co. Antrim of Ireland. Often refered to as the "eihtgh wonder of the world, this remarkable arrangement of stones call for an explanation. The peculiar colulmnar formation was caused by slow and irregular cooling of lava which produced hexagonal cracks. Although the stones are mainly six-sided there are some which have 3, 5, 7, and 8 sides. The result was to produce fantastic designs that are given names like The Wishing Chair, The Lady's Fan, The Giant's Organ, and Loom. Caption "To: Jimmie Picquet. Hello! What abite chee? (N. Irish for 'What about ye or you or How have you been doing') Thanks for the letters. I love to hear about what is going on with the (illedgible) that part of the world, I found out from a recent newspaper clipping that Dublin in the 8th most expensive city to live in the world. 'Bally mena' means nice town or good town. The weather here has been uncharacteristically (sp?) nice and sunny. The 12th of July is a big time for the Protestants here. They burn bonfires made of anything and everything on the 11th night and also have all kinds of parties. On the 12th they have parades of 'Kick the Pope' bands, as they call themselves, and other activities. The bands play marching music and include any combination of flutes, drums, bagpipes, and other instruments. Everything is decorated here too, flags, banners, archways and signs are put up everywhere, while everything is painted red, white, and blue - Loyalist colors. Please excuse the small handwriting; you can't get the gigantic postcards here. I'll write a real letter soon, but I thought you would enjoy the picture. The causeway is beautiful."
