Field Notes from a land grant first documented on October 28, 1834 to Carlos de la Garza and son Rafael this league of pasture land in the County of Victoria, the State of Texas. Re-certified on March 12, 1945, in Volume 203, page 422, Deed Records of Victoria County, Texas, under File No. 6725. The land grant to Carlos De la Garza and his son Rafael is significant for Lydia's family history because the De la Garza cemetery is on that land (documented on this grant) where the remains of Lydia and other family members are buried. Just beyond the cemetery by the San Antonio River is a Roman Catholic spiritual renewal center. Before Lydia met and married Milton Clasen she donated a statue of Jesus to the cemetery, the statue is now near her grave. Rafael De la Garza married Julia Ybarbo. Her ancestor Antonia Gil Ybarbo was born at Los Adaes. The new handbook of Texas online has articles on Ibarvo, Antonio Gil and Carlos Rancho, Texas. Milton and Lydia Clasen were present at the time a historical marker was unveiled at the De La Garza cemetery.
Rafael De la Garza had a son also named Rafael. It was the younger Rafael who married Julia Ybarbo on January 16, 1880. The older Rafael and his father Carlos were the ones named in the land grant.
