George E. Franklin. Caption " George E. Franklin, a product of San Antonio Sam Houston High School, began his football career in 1973 at Texas A&I University, along with some other highly talented freshman. In his first two years as a Javelina, he lettered as a wide receiver and was better than the average at this position. In his sophomore year, his achievements were overshadowed by those of his teammates, Don Hardeman, Larry Collins, and David Hill, and thus received little publicity. Franklin not only has been a football star, but also has been consistent performer on the track. As a freshman, his best time was 9.4 in the 100, the best time by an A&I sprinter since Earnest Haynes ran a 9.3 to tie NAIA outdoor record. In his junior year he teamed with Larry Colllins, Hughie Shaw and Richard Mayfield to win the conference 440 yd. relay. Having just completed his fourth letter as a Javelina, George is considered a top pro prospect. His size(6'4", 220 LB.), speed (4.3 in the 40 yd. dash) and oveall ability should make him an early draft pick, and his fans look forward to watching him on tv, as the next in a long line of black pro starts who attended A&I"
