This event is from the ceremony where Mr. and Mrs. Simons are receiving the the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for Capen Simons while he was interned at Stalag Luft III. The ceremony was done on the Texas A&I football field. Caption on the back "The actual presentation at which time Maj. Simmons of the Harlingen School presented with Capen's Medals. A letter dated March 2nd 1944 from a Maggie B. The letter is hard to read but it is dated during Capen's internment so it could be condolences. There is also a floral card dated November 5th 1944 from a Mr. and Mrs. Eddins. This too, is assumed to be a for condolences on Capen's interment. Mr. and Mrs. Eddins lost their son, John L. Eddins, in England on April 24th, 1944. His funeral notice is in item R2017-075.0069.
