Her father was Bruce Walter Pettyjohn, sohn of Pettyjoh, that made Pettyjohn cereal that owns the Pettyjohn cerel company in Battlecreek, Michigan.He owned the Bar C Ranch in North Central Texas. She and her mother lived in Colorado, Arkansaw and later El Paso. But, she graduated from Texas A&I. |

President Marc Cisneros talks to the Pre Law Society and Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science honorary) about his experiences as second in command in Panama when Noreiga captured in Dec. 1989. He gives historical background, describes Noreiga as a bully and a coward who waged a personal campaign against then Gen. Cisneros. Cisneros was the only ranking officer who spoke Spanish and became visible in the campaign against Noreiga. Ultimately he was named the negotiator when Noreiga fled to the Vatican Embassy in Panama. Cisneros arrested Noreiga, but in a dispute with his (Cisneros') commanding officer, ultimately retired. In frank discussion he relates many incidents about his time in a dangerous situation. Emily Smolik Buckert, of Victoria, TX, talks about growing up during the Depression and living during World War II. She was married in 1947 to H. Fred Buckert. She remembers Soup Kitchens, but mostly they were alright because they lived on a farm and were able to grow what they needed. She recalls hearing about Pearl Harbor, about American Japanese concentration camps, about women going to work during the War in factories and helping at the USO.

John Jefferson Fox, Jr., born July 5, 1926, and currently of Corpus Christi, TX, His family moved to Texas when he was about two years old and he came to Corpus Christi when he was 15. When he came to Corpus Christi it was during the Depression and he worked hard just to eat. Pres. Roosevelt provided many programs to help people. Eventually the start of World War II and the coming of the Navy base to the area helped the people get out of the Depression. After serving in the military in the War he returned and was disappointed that the government did not assist the veterans more. He talks about the Corpus Christi area after the War.

Donald A. Strubhart, of Riviera, TX, is interviewed for the Veterans Oral History Project. He served in the Army, 4th Infantry Division of military intelligence, during the Vietnam war and was in South Vietnam. He received 3 congressional medals and 7 purple hearts. He talksa bout his assignment consisting of mainly 7-day recon missions, gathering intelligences on Vietcong and other threatening forces. With his platoon he entered enemy territory to gain intelligence on the enemy. Much of the action took place at night and was hand-to-hand combat. Sometimes they wore enemy attire to be able to slip past checkpoints. He talks about his family and his life after the war. |

Andres Canales, Jr. of Salineño, Texas, tells about his life growing up. His father was a farmer--a share cropper. He did not own a car, but did own a mule and cart. There home was a jacalito, whoes construction he describes. He describes Salineño and living conditions there. Talks about crops planted including sorgum, cotton, oranges, and watermelons. Tells about raising pigs and making "chicarrones" to sell. He tells of how the Depression affected the family and of some of the programs started by FDR & the New Deal.
