Mr. Bob Kleberg with one of his favorite cutting mares, believed to be Pyle Dun Mare. In 1921 Kleberg bought approximately 40 cow ponies from the Pyle Ranch to help gather the cattle every eighteen days for tick -eradication. One of the Pyle mares proved to be an exceptional individual, and was referred to as the Pyle Dun Mare. Kleberg was of the opinion that the Pyle horse traced back to Yellow Wolf. No official breeding can be given for the Pyle Dun Mare, but many of the best ranch horses carry her in their pedigree. (excerpt from "The King Ranch Quarter Horses.") |
