An oral history interview with Peggy Westbook done on February 28, 2019. Peggy Westbrook was born Peggy Wright on July 5th, 1931. She was born in Luling, Texas. She grew up in an oil industry family and moved around from towns like Feer and Refugio. She can remember as a child during World War II that they must turn off all their lights because U-Boats were of shore in the Gulf of Mexico. She was also childhood friends with Dolores Price. She graduated from high school in Freer when she was 16. She went to work for a trucking company and then for the Alice telephone company. She met her husband, Richard Westbook when she was 18 and was married by age 19. Their first home was in the Kelsey Bass Camp. Richard worked in the oil industry in the exploration field and therefore the family moved several times over the years. She was able to take art classes at Texas A&I in 1951. She found she liked working with acrylics. Peggy and Richard had three children, Ann, Ricki, and Richard who that called Chip. The family moved to Australia in 1971 where Peggy painted her first Santa (that Santa is pictured in this collection). They moved to Alaska in 1980 for Richard's job. Peggy has made and painted thousands of Santa's over the years. She also likes to paint and draw portraits.
