Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2000. Dr. Harwig writes "This was my best year for some time in the 'Scholarship' area. I wrote another successful $6,000 grant application for our "Summer Faculty Exchange with Mexican Universities' and organized (and participated in) the current year's exchange. In addition, I published two book reviews, organized and chaired a roundtable at the Kingsville Rio Bravo Association Conference on student-faculty exchanges between U.S. and Mexican universities, and presented a long, co-authored paper at the SCOLAS convention in Puebla, Mexico. Finally, I wrote an application for, interviewed, and obtained a $12,500 grant from Rotary International to teach half-time at the large public university (BUAP) in Pubela, Mexico in the Spring semester of 2002. I will do so in conjunction with a sabbatical leave during the 2001-2002 adademic year.

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2002. Dr. Hartwig spent part of 2002 on sabbatical leave to teach at the Universidad Autonoma De Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Dr. Goswami writes, "Dr. Hartwig is not only the university's resident expert on Latin America, especially Mexico, but he can also be considered to be one of South Texas' leading authorities on that region."

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2003. Dr. Goswami writes, "Dr. Hartwig has been consistently teaching our upper-division 'Technology and Society' course. This course serves an academic need for students from the College of Engineering and serves as an important Arts and Sciences contribution to engineering programs. He secured the renewal of a grant from the Coastal Bend Foundation, and completed another year of running the International Affairs Group, a widely known campus forum." Dr. Hartwig became a member of the Academy of Political Science in May of 2003.

Acceptance of the "Paul Diesing & Social Science" essay to serve as the Introduction to a reprinted edition of Diesing's book Science & Ideology in the Social Sciences. Three book reviews published by Choice Magazine.

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2005. Dr. Carranza reports, "Dr. Hartwig's annual evaluation measuring categories were excellent. His research accomplishments in the 2005 calendar year include a book chapter, three paper presentations at professional conferences, and two book reviews. Dr. Hartwig is the organizer of the International Affairs Group and collaborates with coeditors on the on-line journal Urbana. He arranged Summer I teaching at TAMUK for Dr. Roman Lopez, of the University of the Americas, Puebla, Mexico, and participated in several university and departmental committees. He is an excellent colleague and always makes insightful contributions at departmental meetings.

Dr. Hartwig's research accomplishments in the 2006 calendar year include an article in an electronic journal, three book reviews, a monographs submitted for publication, a textbook review for the Perseus Books Group and organizing and chairing a panel at the 17th Annual meeting of the Rio Bravo Association. He was granted a developmental leave for TAMUK for Spring / Summer of 2008 for work on a project on UN Security Council reform at the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts at the Australian National University.

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2007. Dr. Hartwig's continued to teach American Government and Politics, Technology and Society, and Introduction to Political Science. His research and artistic endeavors include the publication of "Squaring the Circle: Reforming the United Nations Security Council: A Regional / Economic Proposal," and "Winning is Everything: The Presidency of George W. Bush." His published book reviews of Voting for Autocracy:Hegemonic Party Survival and its Demise in Mexico and Peace, Democracy and Human Rights in Colombia were in the journal of Choice Dr. Hartwig's letter to the Corpus Christi Caller Times about the United Nations was published in February 2007 and he made a presentation to the Rio Bravo Association entitled "Sociedad de Conocimiento," at Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, Mexico. A DVD of the American Democracy Project Environment is included in this folder.

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2008. Dr. Hartwig's continued to teach American Government and Politics, Technology and Society, and Introduction to Political Science. Dr. Matthew C. Price, Chair of the Department of Political Science writes, "During the spring of 2008 Dr. Richard Hartwig brought international attention to TAMUK while traveling abroad on sabbatical, lecturing on proposed United Nations reforms in Australia, India, and Dubai, garnering major newspaper and news media coverage in every location." Dr. Hartwig presented six public lectures while traveling. Two of the titles are "Reforming the United Nations Security Council in the Year 2020: A Regional / Economic Proposal," and "Far Away and Long Ago: the Argentine Dirty War."

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2009. Dr. Hartwig gave invited lectures at the University of the Americas-Puebla, Chulula, Mexico and at the Kingsville Noon Rotary Club. In addition, his article, "Far-Away and Long Ago: Argentina and the "Dirty War" was featured in the book Spatial Analysis and Public Policies in Selected Case Studies.Dr. Hartwig organized and attended six International Group Lectures at TAMUK in the Spring and Fall of 2008, served on the editorial board of the on-line journal Urbana and began a new research area in the summer of 2009: comparative crime in Mexico and Columbia.

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2010. Summer of 2010 Dr. Hartwig brought international attention to TAMUK presenting a paper on "Journalism and Theories of Organized Crime in Columbia and Mexico," at the annual conference of the Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia in Canberra in July. He reviewed two books, Comparative Latin American Politics and The Silence and the Scorpion: The Coup against Chavez and the Making of Modern Venezuela. Dr. Hartwig presented two papers at academic conventions: "Low on Fuel or Asleep at the Helm?" and "Journalism & Theories of Organized Crime in Columbia and Mexico."

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2011. In the Fall Dr. Hartwig began to teach a new topics course, Drugs, Violence and Politics in Mexico and Columbia, which he developed based on prior research. He presented a paper at the Arkansas Political Science Association Meeting which was awarded "Best Faculty Paper." He continued on the editorial board for the journal Urbana. Dr. Hartwig submitted a manuscript for publication: "The S.S. United States of America on the Rocks? Power Failure or Loss of Steering?" He presented a covention paper: "Understanding and Coping with Mexican Drug Violence," which received the "Best Faculty Paper."

Dr. Richard Hartwig Annual Evaluation, Political Science, 2012. Dr. Hartwig is noted for his emphasis on developing writing skills with his students. He planned for a faculty leave for the Spring of 2013 to travel to Australia and New Zealand. He received a Vaughan Park Residency grant for his stay in New Zealand, which will give him time and space in which to write. Dr. Hartwig published a journal article with John Bailey, "Journalism & Organized Crime in Columbia and Mexico." He wrote an article for Javelina Today, "A Moment with an Expert: the United Nations and International Security," and presented a paper, "Reforming the United Nations Security Council to Make Global Decisions," at the Annual Meeting of the Arkansas Political Science Association.

He was given a guest editorial by the Corpus Christi Caller Times for his article, "Rays of Hope for a Safer Mexico." Dr. Hartwig attended the Latin American Studies Association Convention: "Democracy & Memory" in Chicago and he presented a paper, "Political Architecture: Implementing the Regional Economic Proposal (REP) for UN Security Council Reform" at the Fourth Global International Studies Conference 2014: Justice, Peace, & Stability at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
