Spohn Sanitarium was built in 1905 on North Beach. Dr. Arthur Spohn, with other leading citizens, raised the funds to build the sanitarium and then deeded the structure to the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. It was destroyed in the 1919 hurricane.
