The Kingsville P.T.A. was organized in 1911. In the beginning years the organization was referred to as the Kingsville City Council of Parent-Teacher Associations, District 21 of the Texas branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. The first president was Mrs. Earl Braley. Two organizations were formed in 1925. By the 1960s the organization had six member units including H.M. King High School PTA, Gillett Middle School PTA, Memorial Middle School PTA, West Cluster PTA, Central Cluster PTA which included Lamar Elementary and Kleberg Elementary Schools, and the East Cluster PTA including Colston, Harvey, and Perez Elementary Schools. The Objects of the association were to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, church and community, to raise the standards of home life, to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children, to bring into closer relation the home and the school, and to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of 276 photos of events of the association dating from the 1950s to 1970s. Records consist of membership lists, bylaws, minutes, establishing documents, correspondence, and newsletters up until 1977.
