One part of the South Texas Oral History & Folklore Collection is A1993-005. This accession is a series of oral interviews that were done in the early 1970’s that was done by the Texas A&I history department, George O. Coalson and Leslie Hunter. There are over 350 oral histories in A1993-005. Many of these interviews were with people who came to the area when the railroads did and help build towns like Kingsville, Bishop, and Driscoll to name a few. This of course is not a comprehensive summary of all the subject matter contained in these interviews. Some topics covered are personal dealings with the Klu Klux Klan, Texas Rangers, witchcraft, folk medicine, farming techniques, racial tensions, oil exploration, and day to day living.

Scope and Content

The South Texas Oral History & Folklore Collection is a collection of over 40 accessions of oral histories donated to the South Texas Archives. This collection started in 1973 and is being collection to this day. There are various topics and people in this collection but there is a link to some aspect of South Texas History.
