Historical or Biographical Information

Magdalena (Maggie) Blanco-Salinas was born on May 3, 1934 in Kingsville Texas. She graduated high school from H.M. King High and attended Texas A&I University before graduating from the Vogue Cosmetology College. After college Maggie got married and had two daughters and a son. Maggie owns Glamor Studio, a hair salon, which also operates as her office for community activities. During the last fifty years she has volunteered her time and energy into community projects, Las Posada de Kingsville, Communities in the Schools, and the Richard Street Project. Maggie also stays busy with local organizations, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is the chairman for the Historical Development Board. In 2016, Maggie participated in the TCU Department of History’s Civil Rights in Black and Brown oral history project. This interview can be found under related collections.

Scope and Content

Material covered in the collection spans the life of Maggie Salinas. The collection includes personal mementos and correspondence, photographs, and materials covering her many community activities. Professional materials cover her time with the Kleberg Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Historical Development Board, Downtown Merchants Association, La Posada, Kleberg Hispanic Historical Society, speeches, and professional correspondence.
