Historical or Biographical Information

Enda May Johnson was born in 1897 in South Texas. On December 01, 1916 she married Gail L. Tubbs. Gail was a Charter Member of the First Volunteer Fire Department of Bishop, Texas and served as the chief for 30 years while Enda was a teacher in Bishop Texas. Edna May was an avid writer who wrote several short stories and numerous articles about life in the Coastal Bend area. Edna died in 1993 and is buried at the Restland Memorial/Memory Park in Bishop.

Scope and Content

The collection contains articles and short stories written by Edna May Tubbs along with several images. The numerous articles detail the early histories of Bishop and the towns’ first families, Davy Crockett, the San Jacinto Flag, “Mother Lane” the faith healer, the Coastal Bend area of South Texas and several short stories. The images are of the Bishop Diamond Jubilee, Bishop Texas and the surrounding area.
