Dr. Edwin Robert Bogusch was born in Mason, Texas, in 1905. He married Ethel Elnore Molby of Weslaco, Texas in 1930. He received his BA, MA, and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Texas. Dr. Bogusch began his teaching career at the age of eighteen in a one-room schoolhouse in Helotes, Texas. He went on to be an Assistant Curator at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He taught at the University of Illinois and Washington State University and served as a federal agent for the Department of the Interior in Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 1941 Dr. Bogusch came to teach at Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas. Ethel Bogusch accepted a position as a biology teacher at H. M. King High School. Dr. Bogusch was a professor at Texas A&I College from 1941 to 1974 when he retired. He was named Chairman of the Biology Department in 1948 and served in that capacity for twenty years. While he was at Texas A&I College, he wrote many articles and a few books, produced many films and audio tapes all on the subjects of the flora and fauna of South Texas. He and his wife traveled all of the world's continents except Antarctica in search of biological research and photographic adventure. They had two sons, one was a professor of drama at Florida State University. The other was an engineer in California involved in both military research and space engineering. Dr. Edwin R. Bogusch died at the age of 80 in 1986. Following is a list of his publications. The Bogusch Collection consists of materials totaling approximately four linear feet. The bulk of the material is the series Books, most of which deal with biological topics especially botany. The other two series that comprise most of the remaining material are Literary Productions and Field Notes. The Literary Productions are Dr. Bogusch's writings on biological topics except for one manuscript on his early recollections of Kingsville and Texas A&I College. His Field Notes cover observations and experiences from 1936 up to 1969.
