Otis Malvin Montgomery was born in West Texas in a town that no longer exists. The date was August 14, 1907 and the town was Calf Creek where his mother's Civil War era ancestral farm was located. Curtis, his brother was born two years later. Their father, Harvey Woods Montgomery, died shortly after Curtis was born. Their mother, Minnie Deland Montgomery, supported the family by teaching school. The boys had many odd jobs as they grew to help supplement the family's resources. Otis (known as Monty) and Curtis attended a number of one and two room schoolhouses in West Texas. Monty graduated from high school in Gorman, Texas in 1925 with a scholarship to the college of his choice. In order to continue earning money while attending college, Monty spent a year learning shorthand and bookkeeping at the local business college, which he used to finance the family and himself while at college. In 1928 Monty moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas to study journalism. He met Claire in 1930 at school, they both graduated in 1934 and were married. In 1931 Monty joined the Army Air Corps as a buck private and was stationed at Dodd Field in San Antonio. In 1934 Monty took a position as a journalism teacher at McAllen High School. Five years later he began teaching at Texas College of Arts and Industries (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville) as a journalism professor. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Monty joined the Navy, he became Admiral Nimitz's administrator during the war and served at the Bay of Pigs. The three books in the collection inform the details of Monty's life before, during and after the war.
Included in the collection are the three autobiographical books written by Dr. (Monty) Montgomery.
The three books are arranged chronically.
