| Abstract: | The Fred C. Bryant Collection focuses on range and wildlife management research publications organized for learning and teaching and correspondence. Materials covers time spent teaching at Texas Tech and as director of Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. Wildlife populations are described as to habitats, foraging, and diseases. Planting, propagation and harvesting are examined predominately in the South Texas region. Basic range and wildlife ecological concepts are included. |

Fred C. Bryant, Ph.D. is the Leroy G. Denman, Jr. Endowed Director of the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He is a 4th generation Texan, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management from Texas Tech University in 1970. Fred obtained his Masters of Science degree in Wildlife Biology in 1974 from Utah State University and his Ph.D. in Range Science from Texas A&M University in 1977. Fred became the Director of the Institute in 1996. From 1977 to 1996, Fred was Professor of Range Management in the Department of Range and Wildlife Management at Texas Tech University. Fred's international experiences include research activities in Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Morocco. In addition, he embarked upon short-term assignments in Venezuela, Indonesia, Australia, Ecuador, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. The principal focus of his international research was on the pastures and rangelands of these countries, with specific emphasis on grazing animals. Fred has co-authored three books and numerous journal articles, bulletins and symposia reports, popular articles and abstracts. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University in 2002 and received the Professional Achievement Award from the College of Natural Resources at Texas Tech University in 2002 and received the Professional Achievement Award from the College of Natural resources at Texas Tech University in 1996. Fred was a member of the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation from 1996 to 2002, and he served again from 2008 until 2012. He is a Professional Member of the Boone and Crockett Club, (1997 to present). He has served as President of the state professional societies for both the Society for Range Management in 1995. In 2011, he was selected as one of four finalists for the Budweiser Conservationist of the Year. Dr. Bryant is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kingsville. Fred and his wife, Janis, have three grown children and nine grandchildren.
Bryant's Collection consists of science-based information for teaching the management of wildlife at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and enhancing the conservation of wildlife and habitats in the region. The published articles and documents cover wildlife diets, riparian habitats, habitat types, management guidelines, propagation and planting, harvesting, pastures and grazing, foraging and the resulting impacts on the land. Personal and professional correspondence discuss general business, projects both domestically and abroad researching deer, quail, sheep, and habitats, publications, and speeches/presentations.

Collection processed by Cecilia Aros Hunter in 2005, Lori Atkins created the Finding Aid and separated the materials from the University Collection into a distinct personal collection in 2016 and Daniel Thacker created the EAD Finding Aid. In 2017 new accession was processed and finding aid updated by Matt Tallant. Daniel Thacker uploaded updated documents to STA website.
