Creator Sketch
The Chandler family were early settlers in Texas and South Texas. The first Chandlers moved to Texas in the 1877 from Louisiana. Three generations, from the 1880's to the present, produced six dentists. The family was also very interested in music. One member of the family was a member of the Grand Opera as a tenor for four years and most family members were involved with music as a pastime. Dr. J. V. (Jesse Van Buren) Chandler was a dentist in Kingsville, Texas who turned to writing as a second profession and eventually became the Poet Laureate of Texas for the term of 1959-1961. Mrs. (Marie Airhart) Chandler was President of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs.
